The Behaviour returns with “Phantom Hands (Edit)”, a dark, cinematic cut that tightens the project’s gothic-inspired alternative rock into a radio and playlist-ready form. Fuzzed bass, hypnotic drums and noir-tinged guitars coil around a cathartic chorus, pushing the intensity forward while preserving the spacious, reverb-laden atmosphere that defines The Behaviour.
Led by multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Marshall Kilpatric (ex-Black Light Burns, The Esoteric, tours alongside Motörhead, Deftones, Chris Cornell, The Smashing Pumpkins), The Behaviour explores the shadowy edges of modern blues rock and neo-psychedelia—where shoegaze textures meet post-grunge weight. Lyrically, “Phantom Hands” turns memory and control into a ritual of healing: “We must appreciate our scars / as they’re beautiful soul wounds.”
The track was recorded at Quaternal Studios in Sturbridge, MA, mixed by Paul Malinowski of Shiner (Massive Sound, Shawnee, KS) and mastered by Mike Nolte (Eureka Mastering, Portland, OR). The new edit brings the hook into focus and increases replay value without sanding off the edges—the analog warmth remains, the chorus hits sooner, and the dynamic arc stays volatile and alive.
Sitting somewhere between Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Angels and Failure, The Behaviour channels a lineage of nocturnal rock into something personal and current: heavy and hypnotic, vulnerable yet tough. It’s music for night drives and deep reflection—songs that carry weight and leave space.
Kilpatric states:
"Love songs, to me, are usually cliche, overdone, and far too sappy. For that reason, I typically try to avoid them, unless part of a grander theme. In this case, I went against my usual mindset and chose to write one, albeit in a slightly veiled, metaphoric but colorful sense. To find inspiration in someone, something, somewhere, that you love and hold in high enough regard, is truly a special circumstance, and worthy of tribute. Though not to be so simplistic, this song captures that essence intertwined with appreciation, devotion, admiration, hope, and loyalty. Again, as is a common theme in The Behaviour’s music, recognizing the unseen energetic force behind what lies in front of you is to be regarded with respect and honor, and this is done as if performing a spell or ritual to eloquently do so in a hopeful and timeless manner. This one is dedicated to my muse and source of inspiration, W.A."
Lyrics
In your eyes I see myself in you
Perfection makes a flawless muse
Scream eater giving the ego chill
The same side on opposing parallels…
(Oh, oh…) Take the staircase
Across the endless mile
(Oh, oh, oh, oh…) A lifelong pursuit
(Oh, oh…) To the end of days
A spinning turnstile
(Oh, oh, oh, oh…) We find our way through
Renewed…
Whoa-oh…
Unquenchable fires tempered and imbued
From our minds, scenes in the flesh come true
Desire fierce and so surreal
The silver cord beyond the pale…
(Oh, oh…) Take the staircase
Across the endless mile
(Oh, oh, oh, oh…) A lifelong pursuit
(Oh, oh…) To the end of days
A spinning turnstile
(Oh, oh, oh, oh…) We find our way through
Renewed
Oh-oh-oh…
Oh, oh, oh, whoa-oh-oh…
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh…
Oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh…
Oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh…
Oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, whoa…
Ah, ah, whoa-oh…
Ah, ah, whoa-oh…
Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh…
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh…
We must appreciate our scars
As they’re beautiful soul wounds
It makes us who we are
And so fine tuned
